1967 Triumph Trophy. I’ve owned this bike since 1998, kept it in storage until a couple years ago, got it running, converted ET ignition to standard 12V battery, coil & points for reliability, easy starting and better lights. Offered here is a Matching-Number Low Mileage 1967 Triumph TR6C Trophy 650cc “street scrambler” in EXCELLENT RUNNING condition. Frame & engine number T120R DU58079, both stampings clean, clear & unmolested. I’ve owned this bike since 1998, kept it in storage until a couple years ago, got it running, converted ET ignition to standard 12V battery, coil & points for reliability, easy starting and better lights. Cleaned and rebuilt the original 389/239 Amal Monobloc carburetor, rebuilt the front forks with new bushings, seals & gaiters, set valve clearance and ignition timing. Engine had VERY good compression and needed no further attention, so I gave the bike a comprehensive cosmetic refresh – gas tank professionally repainted in original Mist Green over Alaskan White with gold pinstriping, oil tank, toolbox/side cover, fork sliders, headlight ears, chainguard, stands and numerous small parts repainted gloss black. New seat from Andy Leighton in the UK (with black bottom trim as correct for 1967), complete new “C” high-level exhaust system – exhaust pipes, silencers, heat shields & hardware – from JRC Engineering, new shrouded rear shock absorbers, new chains & control cables, and last but not least new Dunlop K70 Gold Seal tires front 3.25-19 and rear 4.00-18. Both instruments – speedometer and tachometer – were restored by Vintage British Cables in Medicine Hat Alberta and installed with new drive cables, also from VBC. Original stainless steel front & rear fenders are in great shape, chrome on original Dunlop rims is near-PERFECT , all the unique-to-C-model parts are there – internal damping rods and stiffer green/yellow springs in the front forks, correct 1967 version of the smaller MCH66 Lucas headlight, folding rider’s footpegs. And of course that gorgeous exhaust set-up! It is also worth mentioning the cool period Webco accessories on the engine – finned aluminum rocker oil feed, rocker inspection caps & point cover – very TRICK! NOTE: Triumph’s TR6C models were not normally equipped with a tachometer or a center stand like this one is – not sure if these were added by the selling dealer back in 1967 or by a Previous Owner, but either way they are both extremely usefull, practical and desirable upgrades! The Previous Owner told me when I bought the bike back in 1998 that he had done some “hot rod” work on the engine, and now that I have it running and have done about 100 miles on it I can say unequivocally he was not lying! It starts on the first kick, has a lumpy idle that would be consistent with hot cams, and when you whack the throttle open at 3000RPM in 3rd gear, the bike comes on the cams with authority and just lights up like a rocket – it is without a doubt the quickest unit 650 Triumph I have ever ridden! Beyond that, everything works as it should – transmission shifts cleanly, brakes are good given the 8″ single-leading shoe up front, suspension is nice and tight as it should be with all-new components, lights are bright & horn makes noise – contrary to Joe Lucas’ Prince of Darkness reputation! A near-PERFECT example of one of the prettiest and most desirable of all the Unit 650 Triumphs!
